Joining SONYA

For Visual Artists – SONYArtist Membership

The SONYA community includes Brooklyn, NY visual artists whose homes, studios or galleries are located within the boundaries of Flatbush Ave., Atlantic Ave., Bedford Ave., and Flushing Ave (including the Brooklyn Navy Yard). These boundaries essentially cover the areas of Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Wallabout, and the western edge of Bedford-Stuyvesant.

SONYA invites professional visual artists, who are committed to their career in the arts, to join our network. All artist members must be at least 21 years old and be interested in exhibiting their own original, fine art at SONYA sponsored events. Artists may join SONYA at any time and membership is valid for one year from the date of membership confirmation. We offer five groups of artist membership and corresponding benefits:

• Active Artist Membership of individual artists
  -- $45/annual plus 6 hours of volunteer work OR $100/annual with no volunteer hours.
• Family/Dual Membership for households of 2 life partners, both artists.
  -- $70/annual from, plus 12 hours each of volunteer work OR $180/annual with no volunteer hours.
• Associate Membership for galleries, businesses or community organizations who are supportive of SONYA’s mission.
  -- $100/annual
• Alumni Membership for individual artists who have participated as an active SONYA member for at least one year, and who have moved outside SONYA's community or who do not wish to exhibit in the current calendar year.
  -- $35/annual

You'll need a 100 +/- word artist statement and two work samples in jpeg format. Once approved for membership you can return to the SONYA Members site to pay your fees and register for SONYA events, such as the SONYA Studio Stroll.
